He was born last month and I was blessed to be able to be there to see him right after he was born. My sister ended up with a cesarian, which was a huge bummer for her and I was hoping to get some birth images. I tried to get myself (and my camera of course) in the OR, but it was a no go. I was bummed but SO excited to meet the little guy. Ashley did amazing.

Chase ended up in the NICU for 5 days after he was born which was especially hard for my sister and her husband, they were ready to get him home. Here are a couple of my favorite images of my brand new nephew!

Can you believe this guy? Love him!

I was asked by a dear friend (and business partner) to photograph the birth of her third child.  This is a story that she can share with others….a story that may have faded from her memory ever so slightly as other life events took its place.  But now she can share this wonderful story with her family and friends and she can go back and experience this special day on her own when her son is older.

Another thing I wanted to mention is that her midwife is also her mother-in-law.   I witnessed this incredible relationship between these two women…can you image delivering your grandchild.  This was a very peaceful and calm delivery…Nicole made birthing look easy.

This image is not technically “perfect”, but that is not the essence of the image.  There is blood in this image, but it is not gross, and if at first all you see is a blur, then look again…

It is a blessing to be asked to photograph a birth, but to photograph the birth of a dear friends child is something incredibly special. To share in this miracle of life is very hard to put into words as it is filled with pain and joy all at the same time.  But a photograph will allow you to feel the emotion for yourself.  The beauty of photography for me is being able to capture those moments that you will treasure forever…the moments you may never be able to see for yourself.
